Fiberglass Insulation
Fiberglass insulation has been improved: 1) Fiberglass insulation is no longer as itchy as it used to be. While this does not concern the homeowner as much as the installer, it is still a great improvement. 2) Fiberglass insulation has greater R-values. Manufacturers produce high density batts which greatly improve r-values. though more costly than standard batts, high density fiberglass insulation batts are less costly than blown in methods.
Fiberglass insulation has been falsely accused as a carcinogen (cancer-causing): The fear of cancer positively causes us to reconsider what we eat and do. Yet, this fear can also bring unwarranted accusations. Long term studies have found that fiberglass insulation is not carcinogenic. These studies were conducted on those who produce fiberglass insulation. The American Lung Association and the National Toxicology on Carcinogens have concluded that fiberglass batts are not carcinogenic.
For over fifty years, fiberglass insulation has maintained a stable reputation in the construction industry. It continues to provide excellent r-values and is cost effective. When considering the various materials for insulating your house, do seriously consider using fiberglass insulation.
