Black Mold
Insulation neither causes mold nor prevents it. Mold can grown on any substance if the conditions are right: darkness, no ventilation and moisture. Not all molds are dangerous. Black Mold, as defined in this article, refers to the dangerous types that cause health problems.
Common causes of black mold:
- Lack of ventilation. Check to see if there are soffit vents, not enough soffit ventilation, or plugged soffit ventilation
- Furnace or air conditioner in the attic
- Bathroom vents
- Wet Insulation
